Pavaro Bhikkhu's encounter with Buddhism began in 1980 under the guidance of Anagarika Dhamma Dinna and later Venerables Piyadassi, Madewala and Ayya Khema. For many years he combined ardent retreat going with academic study of Buddhism and a busy family life.
In 2001, after a journey to the Buddhist holy sites of India, he left a university career in Religious Studies to devote himself to monastic training with Ajahn Sona at Birken Forest Monastery near Kamloops, BC. He later went on to train with Ajahn Pasanno at Abhayagiri Monastery in California. For the past six years he has lived in Thailand, at Dtao Dtum, Wat Pah Nanachat and Anandagiri monasteries.
With Ajahn Sumedho and many senior western monastics, he will attend the International Elders and Sangha Gathering in the UK at Amaravati, prior to this visit to Canada.
